Hello!

Picture
My name is Allyson Dewar and I a fifth grade teacher at ABTE.  I’m ready for a fantastic school year and I hope all of you are ready as well!  I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself.  I was born and raised in Trenton, Michigan which is about twenty minutes south of ABTE.  I attended Trenton Public Schools and graduated from Trenton High School in 2000.  At Trenton High School, I was very involved in clubs, school activities, and sports.  I was a three year varsity softball player and had the honor of playing on one of the best high school softball teams in the state at that time.  After high school, I enrolled at Central Michigan University.  Education is extremely important to me and my family.  I am a third generation college graduate!  I always wanted to be a teacher.  There was never a doubt about that.  I chose CMU because of their excellent teaching program and because I was born and raised both a Chippewa and a Sparty.  I did my midtier at CMU in Shepherd, Michigan in a first grade classroom, instructing Reading and Math.  I completed my student teaching in a third/fourth combined classroom at McKinley Elementary in Wyandotte, Michigan.  Also, while in Wyandotte, I was hired at Roosevelt High School as a softball coach. Currently, I am the head JV coach.  I graduated from CMU in 2005 with a BS in Elementary Education triple minoring in Language Arts, Geography, and Planned Program.  I am highly qualified in Language Arts, Geography, Elementary Education and Technology.  Two months after I graduated from college, I was hired by Summit Academy Middle School in Romulus, Michigan.  At SAMS, I was the jack of all trades teaching Reading, Writing, Geography, Career Pathways, Keyboarding, and Study Skills for sixth and eighth grade.  I missed the elementary setting, so after two years at Summit Academy Middle School I began to explore my options.  In the summer of 2007, I received a phone call from Dr. Merritt and here I am!  I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason and my reason was to be here.  I love ABTE and look forward to each and everyday.  I am also a student!  Right now, I am attending Michigan State University for my MA in Educational Technology.  I will graduate this May.  On my spare time I love watching sports, especially college football, college hoops, and Detroit Tigers baseball.  I also play on two softball teams, play golf, love boating, enjoy traveling, and value time with my family and friends.  I can’t wait to learn and grow together this year!
